Everything You Should Know About Different Candle Waxes

The best part of a candle is the scent. It can be calming, relaxing or invigorating depending on what you're looking for. But there are few things as frustrating as burning through your favorite candle only to find out that it doesn't smell like anything at all!  Luckily, we've got you covered with this blog post! We'll walk you through some of the most common types of candles and their waxes to help you figure out which one will work best for your needs! Not all candles were created equal and it's important to know what kind of wax you're burning and oils or fragrances that go into your favorite candle! Like anything you keep in your house, it's important to ensure you have great quality candles free of chemicals or toxins.

The Soy Wax Candle

Soy wax candles have been gaining popularity over the years because they usually produce more light than other types and also tend to burn longer. These candles are made from vegetable oils rather than animal fats so they are said to be better for the environment.

Soy candles are also non-toxic and smokeless, so they're perfect for people with allergies or asthma. The downside of soy candles is that some people find them to be too expensive when compared to other types of candles such as beeswax or paraffin ones.

Pros:  Soy wax doesn't contain any hazardous substances like lead or mercury, so it's safe around pets and children. It burns cleaner than paraffin with a longer burn time

Con:Soy wax requires more dye to get to the desired color. There have been studies that the soy industry is closely linked to deforestation. Soybeans can also contain GMOs or pesticides that could linger in the wax.

Beeswax

Beeswax provides an amazing scent that can fill up your room quickly but also has some benefits like helping burns last longer. It burns at a lower temperature than other waxes, making it safer for kids or pets to be around them; they are also more eco-friendly as they do not emit any toxins into the air like traditional candles.Beeswax candles are a healthy alternative to paraffin or soy wax candles because they burn cleaner and release less soot into the air. Beeswax is also an excellent choice for people with allergies because it does not emit any substances that could trigger reactions such as mold, pollen, dust mites, or other allergens.  Beeswax candles are an eco-friendly, sustainable choice for many people. Beeswax is a natural byproduct of honey making

Pros: Beeswax is dense so has a very long burtime and lifespan. It is sourced ethically from local beekeepers. Unlike many other types of waxes it doesn't produce soot or smoke when burned.

Cons: Can be more expensive than other wax alternatives. It's not as easy to get the wicks lit on beeswax candles because they need a certain type of match or lighter that can get hot enough to light the wick without causing any damage to the candle itself.

Paraffin Wax

On the other hand, paraffin wax is cheap and available everywhere but can often smell chemically or artificial. The wax is petroleum based and is created using crude oil. It is resistant to water and good at repelling other liquids. It is easy to add fragrances and essential oils to the wax.

Pro: cheap and available everywhere with a strong scent.

Cons: They may not burn evenly across the entire candle due to uneven wicks or heat sources. Not environmentally friendly and can cause soot and release of toxins.

Mineral Wax
Some waxes are more pure than others. Mineral Wax is an excellent example, with only the most basic of materials found in it to give it its unique properties and distinct smell. Since mineral waxes are pure and natural substances they contain little to none of an alcohol or esters found in plant waxes and beeswax.

Pros: natural with little to no alcohol. The wax is made from translucent materials that are stable and unreactive making them a safe alternative.

Cons: Can be more expensive due to their high quality

General things you can look for when shopping around for new candles. One thing to keep in mind is if the wax color matches your desired scent and to think about the added dyes or colors that needed to go into making the wax. Another important factor is how long it takes for the candle to burn down and how much smoke it gives off during its burning time.
